There were many Halloween superstitions in the late 19th century and they were made the subject of many early Halloween postcards. One of them was that if a girl looks into a mirror at midnight on Halloween night she would see the image of her future husband.

Ellen Clapsaddle Thanksgiving children

Vintage Thanksgiving cards
These cards are at least 100 years old. Thanksgiving cards were surprisingly popular at the end of the 19th century, due to improvements in printing techniques which made cards much less expensive and improvements in the US postal system which made it inexpensive to mail holiday cards.
